The CASTOR project (CO2 from
Capture to Storage) was supported by the EC under the 6th Framework
Programme. The project objective was to develop and validate, in
public/private partnerships, innovative technologies needed to capture and
store of CO2 in a reliable, cost-efficient and safe way.
Dozens of European enterprises, research
institutes and universities were involved in the project (from Poland: PBG
Ltd.). In Poland possibilities on geological storage of CO2 generated by
fossil fuels combustion refer mainly to possible utilization of
Permian-Mesozoic aquifers (Lower Cretaceous, Lower Cretaceous, Lower
Triassic), depleted or partly depleted gas and oil fields (and related
aquifers), and methane bearing coal beds (CBM).
